Pumpkins and more

We have been enjoying a beautiful Texas fall! Last week we visited the arboretum. We had so much fun we didn't get many pictures. Tonight we finally carved our pumpkins. The kids have been looking forward to this all month! I suspect Eric has been too since it means he gets to use his power tools on food! Carrie decided she needed a "Bookie" pumpkin, in honor of her favorite stuffed monkey. Emmett quickly chose Yoda and Eric decided to carve Randall's face. Emmett Visits the Hospital

This past weekend was anything but normal! Emmett seemed to be having a little trouble breathing, which was bronchitis last time, so I took him to his pediatrician. After taking a quick look at him and giving him one breathing treatment, he sent us to the ER at Cook Children's Medical Center in the "Town of the Cow" (Ft. Worth). After many hours in the ER and a triple breathing treatment, Emmett didn't seem any better, so we were admitted to the 23 hr. observation unit. We got him settled and I left Eric to spend the night thinking I would take the morning shift and we would be out of there by early to mid-afternoon. This proved to be wishful thinking on our part as Emmett and I ended up spending ALL day Saturday watching movies, playing in their playroom, and eating snacks in between breathing treatments. He prooved himself to be quite the little trooper and charmed all of the nurses! After a very long day we were finally discharged at midnight and sent us home with an oral steroid, a nebulizer to continue treatments, and instructions to keep him still for a couple of days. The "still" part has been our problem as the steroids cause aggressivness and the nebulizer causes him to be talkative and hyper. We still do not know exactly what caused this episode, but as of today (Tuesday) Emmett is beginning to feel better and has not needed any time on the nebulizer. The whole ordeal reminded us of God's sovereignty over our lives, our kids' lives, and our plans. His plans our perfect and He is always faithful to provided the grace and strength needed for the moment. He truly does give perfect peace and joy to those who keep their mind on Him. We came out of the hospital thankful for the general good health our family has, the amazing family members and friends we have who faithfully served us, and for modern American medicine. God is good!
